Q: Why “Owldolatrous”? It’s hard to spell and hard to say!
A: Owldolatrous (owl-dol-uh-truhs) is simply a fusion of “owl” and “idolatrous.” Owls have always symbolized wisdom and transformation. Those of us who have gone through a transformation, whether it be religious, gender-based, or the transformation of coming out, know the wisdom it can bring, along with the pain.
There is a long tradition in religions all over the world, including Christianity, of seeking after wisdom in faith. Faith and reason weren’t always in opposition, as it seems they so often are today. The word Owldolatrous serves to remind me that God asks us to seek for wisdom, not have it handed to us.

A. Yes we do! We are looking for excellent writers with thoughtful, gentle, and profound voices who can meet aggressive deadlines with a minimum of fuss. A small stipend is offered for each essay used. Use the form below to contact us for information.
